Pope Francis canonized Blessed Joseph Vaz ( 1651-1711) as the first Sri Lankan Saint in honour of his dedicated religious work in the island. The canonization was performed by Pope during the early morning Mass at Galle Face Green today.

The Aruthra Dharshan festival was held recently at the Matale Muthu Mariamman temple. Special poojas were held by priests and the upayam was by Mr & Mrs. Punniaseelan. Devotees participated with dedication during the pooja and during the procession when the deities were taken around the outer yard of the temple.
