Mirusuvil Massacre; Colombo HC delivers death sentence


First Accused Sunil Rathanayke, army personnel, was delivered death sentence by Colombo High Court yesterday on being found guilty of murder after trail in the killing of 8 civilians in Mirusuvil in Jaffna on December 9, 2000. He was found guilty of 15 offences.

Additional Solicitor General Sarath Jayamanne with State Counsel Rajindra Jayaratne appeared for the prosecution. Attorney General had filed indictment against five soldiers but four of the accused were acquitted due to lack of evidence.
