An application made by former envoy to Russia Udayanga Weeratunga to recall the issue of warrant to arrest him through the Interpol and to revoke the impounding of passport was refused by Fort Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne yesterday.
President’s Counsel Anil Silva appearing for the suspect Weeratunga supported the application.
Court observed that there are no reasonable grounds to recall the warrant against the suspect since he is alleged to have committed cognizable offences. Court had also issued notices to his local and foreign residences. A law abiding citizen should not behave like this.
The Financial Crimes Investigation Division has complained to the court that Weeratunga allegedly abused public property in the purchase of MIG Aircraft to the Sri Lanka Air Force.
