JVP condemns attacks on workers on strike

Chief Opposition Whip and JVP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake has stated that there were attacks on participants in the strike by Ceylon Petroleum Corporation workers and that the JVP condemns crushing trade union activities in such a manner.

He was taking part in the debate on the government’s decision to declare petroleum sector as an essential service to counter petroleum workers’ strike against the proposed handover of Hambantota and Trincomalee oil tank farms to China and India.

He charged that the government sponsored thugs had brutally assaulted the strikers while the police looked the other way. He demanded to know from Prime Minster Ranil Wickremesinghe whether he condoned goon attacks on striking workers while the police looked on.
