We are committed to rule of law, we decry kangaroo court style: Harin

Harin-Fernando-700-001

Minister Harin Fernando has stated that the incumbent unity government is fully committed to observe rule of law to the letter of the law. We detest and decry applying the law in kangaroo court–style as was done by the previous regime.

Minister Fernando was addressing the media at Sri Kotha recently. He stated that the government agrees with the criticism against them for delays in executing law against corruption and misuse of public money. The process will be accelerated after establishing the anti-corruption high courts. We refuse to take the law into our own hands, like the ex-regime took Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka into custody. We don't use Rajapaksa's way to execute the law. We take the right way, democratic though it is slow.

He added that when the TNL repeater transmission tower was closed down, MPs representing both the government and the Opposition rose to raise their concerns. It would not have been possible under the previous regime. Now, we criticize the President and the Prime Minister. People and trade unions are freely holding demonstrations, fighting for their rights. This is mature democracy. Following the proper legal procedures is not a failure of the government, it is success.
