Controversy over Sharia University; COPE summons heads of four govt institutions

Parliamentary Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) has summoned heads of four government institutions to a committee meeting today to inquire about the Batticaloa Campus, also known as Sharia University.

Speaking to the media, COPE Chairman Sunil Handunneththi stated that the heads of Ministry of Education, Ministry of Skills Development and Vocational Training, the Board of Investment of Sri Lanka and the University Grants Commission have been summoned for the inquiry. The objective of calling the meeting is to start preliminary investigations into ascertaining the nature of the institution called Batticaloa Campus, whether it's a university or vocational school or another institution.
