State of Emergency extended by one month

The State of Emergency was extended by another month from Wednesday, May 22 for public security, for the preservation of public order and the maintenance of supplies and services essential to the life of the community.

The emergency was extended on Wednesday by a Gazette Extraordinary signed by President Maithripala Sirisena in view of the prevailing security situation.

The State of Emergency was initially declared island-wide on 22nd April considering the then security situation of the country following the Easter Day terror attacks.
