Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has observed that every sector must be armed with technology so that Sri Lanka as a country could be ready to meet the demands of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

He was addressing the inauguration of the 'Shilpa Sena' Technical exhibition held at the BMICH on Thursday, July 18. Addressing the event, Wickremasinghe said:

“Steps will be taken to transform Sri Lanka, into a knowledge-based country by incorporating modern knowledge and technology into the education sector. Steps have been taken to provide computer education by modernizing the field of education.

The Engineering faculties of the University of Moratuwa and Peradeniya should be strengthened in the journey of industrializing the country. Sectors for instance, Artificial Intelligence should also be given priority to meet the future demands. Sri Lanka is no more a low income country, at present. If a country is to move forward, it must be dealing with future technologies like artificial intelligence rather than just being content.

We are planning to take the tourism industry forward through technology. For that, fundamentally education has to be built. Rural infrastructure should be provided before all these can be done. Steps have been taken to improve rural infrastructure through programs such as Gamperaliya and Enterprise Sri Lanka."

Minister of Technology and Research Sujeewa Senasinghe also addressed the event. The exhibition is organized by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Research and consists of 600 stalls on modern technology, innovation, entertainment, entrepreneurship opportunities, etc.
