Ensure that You cast your vote … Congress of Religions to voters

Congress of Religions

The Congress of Religions has appealed to all citizens to exercise their right to vote at the scheduled Parliamentary elections scheduled for the 5th of August 2020.

It has made the appeal in a statement issued. The statement reads:

“It is the moral obligation of every citizen to use his or her sacred right to vote for a person of their choice at this decisive moment in the country.

We urge every citizen to vote for persons who are qualified and suitable with no track record of being involved or being associated with any corruption or criminal activities, who can serve the needs of the people with humility and lead a simple life.

We call upon those seeking to enter the Parliament to clearly spell out their economic strategies in bringing relief to the people on a long-term basis, without making promises that are adhoc, inadequate and impractical.

We urge those aspiring to enter the Parliament, to commit themselves to promote mutual understanding, harmony, and good will among the different linguistic and religious communities. The country stands to gain tremendously where all people feel integrated into one nation than the divisive politics adopted by some politicians for temporal gains.

The signatories to the statement are:

Most Ven. Dr Ittapane Dhammalankara Maha Nayaka Thero,
His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith,
Ven. Banagala Upatissa Nayaka Thero,
Sivasri Dr Vytheeswara Kurukkal,
Rt. Rev. Dhiloraj Canagasabey,
As. Sheik M. M. Zaffeer,
