President proclaims new Parlaiment to convene on August 20

President Gotabaya Rajapakse has issued a proclamation summoning the new Parliament to convene on Thursday, August 20.

The new parliament is to be elected by the people at the Parliamentary Election on August 5.

President Gotabaya issued the proclamation by virtue of the powers vested in him by Article 70 (1) of the Constitution of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka to be read with Sub-paragrapph (c ) of paragraph (2) of Article 33 of the Constitution.
