Chief Minister of the Northern Province Justice Wigneswaran has assured Tamil National Alliance Leader R.Sampanthan that he would not insist on the condition relating to leave of two ministers.
He gave the assurance in response to the letter sent by R.Sampanthan urging him to take remedial measures to resolve the crisis.
In his letter, Wigneswaran categorically denied that a punitive action was taken by him against the two ministers. He stated: “There was no punitive action taken against the two ministers concerned. They are entitled to draw their salary and use their vehicles etc. It is in order to give protection to the witnesses that it was said that they should take leave while the inquiring committee sat. There are new charges too against them.
I understand your inability to give guarantee with regard to the conduct of the two ministers. Bui I am glad that you have undertaken to advise them that they should not impede an independent legal inquiry.
It is to ensure the independent legal inquiry and to commit the two ministers that I designed the formula of taking leave for one month.”
He added that he was also in receipt of the notes given by two religious dignitaries and that Selvam Addaikalanathan, Sitharthan and Suresh Premachandran have undertaken to speak to the two ministers.
He concluded that in the light of these undertakings, he would not insist on the conditions relating to leave.
