Twelve Indian fishermen apprehended


12 Indian fishermen were apprehended off North East of Kachchatheewu islands by the Naval personnel onboard Fast Attack Craft and SLNS Ranawickrama attached to the Northern Naval Command on routine patrol. 2 fishing trawlers were also taken into custody. They were arrested allegedly for poaching in the Sri Lankan territorial waters about 2 nautical miles North-east of the Kachchativu Island yesterday.

The arrested fishermen were brought to the naval base SLNS Uththara in Kankesanthurai and the trawler and the fishing gear were taken to SLNS Elara in Kareinagar. The 12 Indian fishermen were handed over to the Assistant Director of Fisheries in Jaffna for onward legal action.
