Prelates must not rely on assurances by President, PM:Gammanpila

Pivithuru Hela Urumaya leader and UPFA Parliamentarian Udaya Gammanpila has advised the Chief prelate of the Malwatte Chapter not to rely on assurances made by President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe in respect of the proposed new Constitution.

He made this observation addressing the media at party office. He stated that he would express serious concerns over the Mahanayake Thera’s recent endorsement of government recommendation pertaining to Buddhism on the basis of assurance given by President Sirisena and Premier Wickremesinghe. The Prelates must be mindful of the political project to deprive Buddhism of its rightful place and undermine Sri Lanka’s unitary status.
