The traditional Maatu Pongal was held at Sivapriyan Dairy Farm in Puthur in Batticaloa. The celebration is traditionally held the day after the Thai Pongal day. Illankai Tamil Arasu Katchi General Secretary and former Provincial Councilor Attorney at Law K.Thurairasasingam was the Chief Guest.
Tamil National Alliance Jaffna District Parliamentarian E.Saravanapavan inaugurated the Thai Pongal Cultural Walk by Jaffna Hindu College. Principal Satha Nimalan presided.
Thamilar Samooga Jananayaga Katchi launched its election manifesto at a meeting held in Jaffna YMCA recently. Leader of the party Sritharan presided. Former Chief Minister of the North Eastern Provincial Council Varatharajaperumal was the key speaker.
Traditional kite Festival Contest was held at the Uthya Sooriyan Sea beach recently. 60 contestants participated. Fisheries Minister Amaraweera was the Chief Guest. Provincial Councilor Shivajilingam, Parliamentarian Ankajan Pathmanathan and others were present.

Neptune Education Institute honoured its Directress Krishni Balasubramaniam for her weighty contribution to the varied activities of the Institute. She was honoured at the sixth annual general meeting held at Thilanga Hotel in Kandy recently. Chief Minister of the Central Province Sarath Ekanayake was the Chief Guest. He handed the award to Directress Krishny at the event.
