Conspiracy to smuggle Moolavar at Palani Murugan Koil; 2 suspects remanded

Sthapathy Muthiah and Executive Officer of Palani Murugan Koil have been remanded by Court following allegations of conspiracy to smuggle the molavar- Dandayuthapaniswamy - at Palani Murugan Koil under the pretext of replacing the idol and selling it to a foreign art gallery. The alleged offence is said to have taken place in 2004.

Reports indicate that the conspirators planned to make a new abishekamurthy idol, weighing around 200 kg, to be installed near the moolavar inside the sanctum sanctorum. The main idol was to be shifted under the pretext that it was damaged, but the agenda was to smuggle the moolavar idol and sell it to a foreign art gallery.
