Bharatiya Janata Party State president Tamilisai Soundararajan has challenged the election of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam leader Kanimozhi from the Thoothukudi constituency in the recently held elections to the Lok Sabha.

She filed an election petition in the Madras High Court challenging the victory of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam leader Kanimozhi and claimed that Ms. Kanimozhi filed four sets of nomination papers and all the four had substantial defects, including inconsistent claims with regard to the Assembly constituency in which she had registered herself as a voter.

She further stated that although the Returning Officer ought to have rejected the nomination paper, he ended up accepting it despite an objection filed by the election petitioner.

She, therefore, urged the court to declare the election of the returned candidate as null and void.
